At the art car show in West Palm Beach in the spring of 2007, I realized that most of the other car artists are also other kinds of artists. They sometimes use these shows to make a couple bucks, hauling out their other art while they’re standing at their cars. So I started thinking about what I could paint besides cars, because — let’s face it — most people aren’t willing to provide me with their cars.
So here are some pix of my mailboxes, art cards, wooden hangers, papier-mâché wall-hangings, and lawn chairs. Painting a lawn chair that won’t scrape when stacked still eludes me. Yeah, I know about Krylon’s Fusion, but that doesn’t work, either. I’ve tried so many things! I have eight messed-up lawn chairs in my yard right now, but I still have one more thing to try. Hah! I’ve said that more than once.
There are a couple shots of my, um, studio, too. Every now and then I look at my kitchen when it has food and toxic chemicals right next to each other, and wonder that I’m still alive ... or if I’m still alive! Those African guys on my computer screen are from a Ladysmith Black Mambazo DVD I was watching and listening to while I painted some chairs.
And there’s a picture of my car while a painted truck is leaving. One art car is pretty cool. Two is twice as cool.
